The initial leak occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, at the corner of Esplanade and Jarry streets, just across from Jarry Park.

According to our information, the leak would have been caused by a pipe of about ten inches which would have been damaged under a strong pressure exerted by the water.

On the way from The Press Saturday, several City public works workers were still busy mopping up the water that had accumulated on the roadway. Earlier, firefighters had also intervened, with the assistance of the Montreal police, to block access to motorists.

“Emergency works are underway and these should be completed by late afternoon today. Citizens are invited to avoid driving in this area for the time being. The City of Montreal and the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension are monitoring the situation closely,” municipal administration spokesperson Guillaume Rivest said by email.

Rue de l’Esplanade should therefore remain closed for part of the day, between rue Guizot and rue Jarry.
