The Carnot gallery museum
the Carnot Museum-Gallery devotes a course to the evocation of all artists who, since the 19th century, have been attracted and seduced by Villeneuve-sur-Yonne and in particular the Nabis group who from 1897 to 1899 resided at the Relais, this holiday resort rented by Thadée and Misia Natanson, animators of The White Review (Vuillard, Bonnard, Vallotton, Toulouse-Lautrec…).
The upstairs gallery which dominates the ditches of the city, gives pride of place to the sculptor Emile Peynot (1850-1932), a native of Villeneuve, Grand Prix de Rome 1880, as well as the painters and designers who since the beginning of the 20th century have highlighted the landscapes of Villeneuvien and northern Yonne: Francis Picabia, Charles -Théodore Balké, Louise-Renée Lacroix, Berthold Mahn, Gaëtan de Rosnay, Michel de Gallard, Claude Autenheimer…
