Out of 444 municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, Villenave d’Ornon and Eysines are among the most robbed towns in France according to Le Figaro. Villenave is ranked tenth with 19.4 burglaries on average per 1000 inhabitants during the year 2021. Eysines is ranked nineteenth with an average number of break-ins of 18.8. Over the same period in Gironde 4.7 thefts were counted. Le Figaro explains that it is the situation of these cities that makes them more susceptible to burglary: these are large residential suburbs, close to business areas.
For the mayor of Villenave-d’Ornon, Patrick Pujol, these figures are “disturbing“.
