In Occitan, Villemoustaussou is pronounced Vilamostausson, vilòta que se tròba between Cabardés and Menerbés / small town located between Cabardès and Minervois, between Cité and garrigues, Villemoustaussou is also the capital of the canton of the Orbiel Valley. Don’t know the origin of the name Vilamostausson / we don’t really know the origin of this toponym. There are several names attested in the 13th century such as Villam Moustouso then Villamoustausione. According to Ernest Nègre (specialist in Occitan toponymy), the name is composed of villa followed by mussitatio(n), which means “whisper” in Latin.
