Ville-Marie | 27-year-old man seriously injured in armed attack

A 27-year-old young man was seriously injured in the upper body during an armed attack in Ville-Marie on Tuesday evening. Montreal police opened an investigation and a possible suspect aged in his thirties was arrested.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) claims to have received several calls from citizens to 911, around 5:50 p.m., to report an armed attack that occurred on Sainte-Catherine Street, not far from Saint-André Street, while near downtown.

Upon their arrival, the first police officers located a 27-year-old man on the ground, who was “seriously injured in the upper body,” according to agent Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the SPVM.

The victim was conscious at the time, but was nevertheless rushed to a hospital, where his life was not feared in the evening.

“According to initial information collected from witnesses, an altercation took place between two individuals on the street. One of them allegedly used a sharp object to injure the victim and fled on foot,” continued M.me Dubuc.

A 37-year-old man was arrested, but investigators were still determining his involvement in the event on Tuesday evening. A security perimeter was erected to protect the scene.
