(Nassau) Viktor Hovland had an eventful second nine, but came from behind to win the World Hero Challenge on Sunday.
Hovland was six strokes behind point guard Collin Morikawa after three rounds, but handed in a 66 (-6) card to climb to the top.
Hovland had two Eagles in a row, at 14e and 15e holes, but he ended his day with two consecutive bogeys. Morikawa, however, had a miserable final round on the course at Albany Golf Club and he had to say goodbye to victory, but also world No. 1.
Morikawa, who was leading by five strokes at the start of the day, missed three birdie chances on putts of 10 feet or less and then committed two double bogueys and one bugy on the first nine.
He played 76 and slipped to a tie for fifth, with a cumulative score of -14. Hovland won the tournament with a cumulative score of -18.
Hovland was one of a five-man squad to hold the lead at some point in the final round.
Scottie Scheffler signed a 66 and he barely missed a birdie on the 18e hole that would have allowed him to equal the Norwegian in the lead. He finished second.
Sam Burns (69) and Patrick Reed (69) shared third place with a cumulative score of -15. Justin Thomas (64) had the best round of the day and joined Morikawa in the fifth rung.
No Canadian took part in this tournament which featured only 20 golfers.
