The team hopes their quarterback will benefit from the arrival of new head coach Kevin O’Connell.
The Vikings announced on Sunday that a tentative agreement has been reached with Cousins to extend his current contract for one year.
This new agreement proves that Cousins will have been right to bet on himself and his performance on the pitch. It also demonstrates that the Vikings have no intention of embarking on a process of rebuilding under his new leadership.
According to a source familiar with the deal, who spoke on condition of anonymity since the details were not disclosed, Cousins will receive 35 million US in guaranteed salary. He also reportedly holds a no-trade clause.
The agreement provides for a signing bonus of US$25 million, the payment of which will be spread over four years to mitigate the impact on the team’s payroll.
