“Viking” and “Babysitter” lead the Gala Québec Cinéma nominations

Movies vikingby Stéphane Lafleur, and Baby sitterby Monia Chokri, are at the top of the nominations for the next Gala Québec Cinéma, with 18 and 14 mentions respectively.

Stéphane Lafleur and Monia Chokri are in the running in the categories of best film and best direction, as is Pascal Plante for The red rooms and Francis Leclerc for The plunger. These last two films received 13 and 12 nominations respectively.

Rafael Ouellet (Arseneault and son) and Charlotte LeBon (Falcon Lake) also found a place in eight and six categories, respectively.

The films of Charlotte LeBon and Stéphane Lafleur had already won awards last April at the Canadian Screen Awards.

To be eligible for the gala, films had to be released between March 2022 and August 2023 – this is why Monia Chokri is nominated for her second film and not her third, Simple like Sylvainwhich ended up at Cannes this year.

In the male performance category for a leading role, Guillaume Cyr (Arseneault and son), Patrick Hivon (Baby sitter), Steve Laplante (viking), Henri Picard (The plunger) and Luc Picard (Confessions) will compete for the title.

As for actresses in a leading role, five women are in the running: Larissa Corriveau (viking), Kelly Depeault (Noémie says yes), Hélène Florent (A respectable woman), Léane Labrèche-Dor (My mother’s men) and Sara Montpetit (Falcon Lake).

Regarding documentaries, Dear Audrey (Dear Audrey) by Jeremiah Hayes, Gabor by Joannie Lafrenière and Geographies of Solitude by Jacquelyn Mills stand out, with four nominations.

This year, the Iris tribute will be awarded to actor Rémy Girard.

Comedian Jay Du Temple will host the 25e Gala Québec Cinéma, which will be broadcast on December 10 on Noovo. The Artisans Gala will take place on December 7 and will be hosted by actress Fabiola Nyrva Aladin.
