127 municipalities in Seine-et-Marne are concerned by vigilance measures for the use of water, reports France Bleu Paris on Friday March 10. It is the prefect of the department who took a decree imposing these measures since Thursday March 9 on all of these municipalities including Provins, Jouarre, Coulommiers, Donnemarie-Dontilly or even Pontault-Combault.
For lack of rain, the water table of Champigny, in Seine-et-Marne, crossed the threshold of vigilance. “Since November, there has been a lack of rainfall throughout Seine-et-Marne. The recent rainy episodes will only cause a temporary rise in the levels of rivers and groundwater”, explains the prefect of the department in a press release. According to him, the situation could worsen, the other aquifers and rivers in the department being “also at a low level compared to previous years. Several small rivers are already close to the threshold of vigilance.”
Fear of a very early drought
The inhabitants of these municipalities are therefore invited to “limit the waste and evaporation of water”, in order to “to anticipate and reduce the problem of the drought which is likely to start very early this year”warns the prefecture.
The watering of gardens and vegetable patches, the cleaning of vehicles and exterior surfaces in particular are to be limited. Local authorities are also encouraged to reduce the watering of flowerbeds, sports fields, golf courses and even the emptying and renewal of public swimming pools.
