It has been several days since the Ukrainian counter-offensive began. After several months of status quo against the Russian forces, kyiv launched several attacks at different points on the front line in an attempt to push back the Russian soldiers. The objective is in particular to find a fault in a thick defense system, composed of several lines covered with mines in particular, built in recent months.
On June 12, the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister, Hanna Malyar, listed on the social network Telegram seven villages taken over by her army, while specifying that the latter had liberated 90 km2 and advanced by 6.5 km. Modest demands for reconquest, but which allow us to visualize where the Ukrainian counter-offensive begins.
These territorial gains are mainly on a front line that runs from Zaporijjia to the east and the Donetsk region. Four of the seven villages, located furthest to the east, are neighbors. According to the daily monitoring carried out by the Institute for the Study of War, several areas have also been reconquered by the Ukrainian army north of Donetsk, while at the same time, Russian troops have also made some progress.
For the moment, the Ukrainian army comes up against land marked out with mines by the Russians. Its attempts to break through to the east resulted in heavy human and material losses, including equipment supplied by Western countries, reports CNN.
