Videotron locks out 214 of its workers in Gatineau

Videotron, a subsidiary of Quebecor, declares a lockout of its 214 workers, following the rejection of its final offer by them in Gatineau.

The lockout will come into effect next Monday at 5 a.m., the telecommunications company said Friday.

The 214 workers who are members of a local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which is affiliated with the FTQ, rejected the final and overall employer offer a week ago, in a proportion of 74%.

The union then hoped to be able to resume discussions with company management.

Subcontracting and maintaining jobs here are particularly at issue in this conflict.

The management of the telecommunications company claims to have no choice but to resort more to subcontracting, since 350 positions in its call centers are vacant, despite its recruitment efforts.
