Katy Vachon showed up for the blind auditions of The voice with the intention of showing what she had in her stomach, she who always wanted to sing and who was told, at another time, that she did not have the physique for the job.
“They told me: “you sing well, but you don’t have the profile, you don’t have the body, the teeth, the nose”, and even: “you sing too loudly, it’s no longer up to par. fashion”,” said the 43-year-old woman, who was once “suggested” to lose 100 lbs.
Katy Vachon is very talented and has a great voice.

“I made an EP, I invested a lot of money, but it didn’t work because it was first the packaging, and then the talent.”
Katy Vachon is not bitter, however. “The only regret I have is perhaps that I would have gone to school more. I had aspirations of doing medicine, but with music I made other choices.”
Mario blocks!
Sunday, at The voiceRoxane Bruneau, France D’amour and Mario Pelchat – who took only a few seconds before rotating his chair – turned around during his spectacular performance on the piece (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin.

Mario blocked France to increase his chances of having Katy on his team and he won his bet when she chose to go with her kick of youth. The three coaches interested him, including Roxane because of her inspiring atypical career path.
“My blind audition was the most intense experience I have had in music,” she told QMI Agency.
She is nonetheless in her first experiences. Twenty years earlier, in 2003, Katy Vachon, who lives in Rouyn-Noranda, took part in the very first edition of Canadian Idol. For his blind audition at The voice, she was also able to count on the energy of Audrey de Montigny in the studio. The latter went far to Canadian Idol and became Katy’s accomplice on the plane that took them to the Queen City. They have never lost the thread of their friendship since.
Perseverance and resilience
Katy Vachon demonstrated perseverance and resilience after Canadian Idol. She settled in Montreal to make it as a singer, but no doors really opened for her. Even though she returned to live in her native region, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, she continued to push the bill.

An administrative technician for the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks by day – she was also sent to the field during last summer’s monstrous forest fires – she sings in the acoustic trio Helium le evening, in addition to often going to karaoke and taking part in shows here and there.
“I take my tattoos out at night and I’m a different person,” she said with a laugh.
Great emotions thinking of his late dad
Katy Vachon started singing in bars and at weddings at age 12 with her late dad Gilles, who was a singer. She gets emotional talking about him.
“He would have been so proud of me. At my audition, I had to think about everything except him, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to contain myself. He hoped all his life that people would recognize me for my voice.”
Whatever happens to The voice this season, Katy Vachon decided to “make the most of this experience”. She no longer dreams of a career, but she savors every moment where she makes her voice heard and makes people experience emotions.
