La Chorba recovers unsold food to provide meals to people in precarious situations. But for this association, the hardest thing in recent months has been to recruit volunteers. Director Franck Gastambide has become one. Brut followed him.
You know him as an actor or director. But Franck Gastambide has just adopted another hat: he has volunteered in the association La Chorba, an association that recovers unsold food to provide meals to people in precarious situations. For him, this is a first: “Like many artists during the Christmas period, we visit children in hospitals. That’s pretty classic. But no, I admit that I had not committed myself like that and it was time“, he says.
Created in 1998, the association La Chorba makes the link between unsold goods generated each day and people in need, as explained by Chloé Léost, communication manager of La Chorba. The association is also responsible for carrying out patrols once a week and thus goes out to meet 70 to 150 people. But hasoday, it is clear that there is a lack of volunteers within the association. Indeed, after the strong mobilization generated by the successive confinements, the recruitment of new volunteers is now struggling to be felt.
According to a study by Secours Populaire, one in seven French people skips meals and one in five restricts the quantities on their plate.
