On Sunday July 16, Aurélie and Perrine, sign language interpreters joined rapper Soprano on stage to translate his show, a novelty for the Vieilles Charrues festival.
They were two to take turns for an hour and a half for the show of the rapper Soprano, in order to translate the words of the singer, to the rhythms of the melodies. On the Glenmor stage of the Vieilles Charrues festival, they shared the artist’s stage to make the event more accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing. “The goal is for her to be able to say to herself: ‘OK, there’s a festival happening near my house, or whatever, I want to go to Brittany, discover another region, I’m hard of hearing but it’s accessible, and I don’t ask myself the question of: how am I going to do it? I can come and share with my friends who are hearing, with my children who are hearing and I am deaf.‘”
“Above all, we feel useful”
If the chantsign has existed for a long time, Aurélie and Perrine have decided to focus on concerts and festivals to make them more accessible. While some are sensitive to the demand but have many questions, others, such as the Vieilles Charrues festival, decide to support this initiative, analyze their repertoire of scheduled artists and sound out which artist would be interested in sharing their stage. The rapper Soprano, interested in the process, then responded. After the show, Aurélie and Perrine are satisfied: “It went well. The show was great. It’s unheard of, that’s it! As us human beings going through this… There has never been a song in front of so many people. In France, it’s the first time. So all that hard work paid off. May it continue to develop, may the public attend, and may we all benefit! It’s only happiness to discover, in addition, artists like Soprano who convey such energy, beautiful values.confides Aurélie.
