VIDEO. When Kylian Mbappé commits to helping 98 young people realize their dreams: the IBKM foundation

The French football prodigy decided to help other young people realize their dreams, through an association he set up with his mother. She speaks for the first time on television Thursday January 18. Journalists from “Envoyé Spécial” met her in the offices of IBKM (“Inspired by Kylian Mbappé”).

It’s a project born from a glossy cover, that of the American magazine Time in October 2018, which recognized footballer Kylian Mbappé, then 19 years old, as “leader of tomorrow”. The PSG prodigy will decide, with his mother to whom he is very close, to launch an association: IBKM, for “Inspired by Kylian Mbappé”, will be created in 2020. Its objective is to help 98 young people to realize their dreams, “opening up the field of possibilities” by “allowing them to experiment and experience diversity” to “lead them to learn, understand, share and transmit”. Why 98? This is the year Kylian was born.

These young people aged 13 to 21 have ambitions (to become an architect, doctor, designer, etc.) which have nothing to do with football. They were not all born in Bondy or even in Seine-Saint-Denis. But for them, the captain of the France team is a model. He proves that “even if you come from a suburb, you can become world famous“, and his example makes them say that “if he did it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t succeed“If they do not necessarily come from a disadvantaged background, some live “difficult social situations“. Kylian Mbappé’s mother, Fayza Lamari, therefore finds “just give them an extra key, because these kids deserve to be helped“.

At the head of Kylian Mbappé’s companies, his mother, Fayza Lamari

Like Kylian Mbappé’s other companies (one dedicated to managing his image, one to his investments, and even a production company), the IBKM foundation is chaired by his mother, assisted by a lawyer, Delphine Verheyden. Known to be discreet and very protective of her son’s image, Fayza Lamari agreed for the first time to be followed by a camera. She received the journalists from “Envoyé Spécial” for an interview in the IBKM offices, located in the Madeleine district of Paris.

On the wall of course sits the cover of the Time Magazine, but it is a photo of Kylian in his very first football jersey, at barely 4 years old, which welcomes the visitor. Many other jerseys followed, some of which are framed here, such as that of the Champions League and especially that of AS Bondy, offered by the club after the World Cup. “That’s fourteen years of his life, and that’s especially where he was trained“, reminds his mother before opening”Ali Baba’s cave” which contains his “man of the match” trophies. Fayza Lamari is proud of her son, but much less of his career than “of the man he becomes andshe hopes, that he will remain“.
