Born in Senegal, he grew up in an HLM in Via Togliatti in Italy. Before becoming the most followed tik-toker in the world, the young boy made videos with his friends which he published on Youtube. “When I was little, I made lots of videos with my friends. Even if people didn’t always look at me, I liked doing that.“It was during confinement that Khaby Lamé discovered the social network Tik-Tok. It parodies people who perform simple actions in a complicated way, and quickly achieve real success.
“There have been many difficult times. If I had to tell them here, I would need ten interviews.“Although he is a true social media star, Khaby Lame’s journey has not always been so easy. Before becoming the most followed Tik-Tokeur on the social network, the young boy did many different jobs. “I had lots of jobs. I’ve been a bricklayer, dishwasher, waiter, mechanic… I’ve done numerical control, window cleaner… Work, a bit tiring.” Before confinement, the content creator even combined two different jobs. “During the day, I was a builder. In the evening, waiter-dishwasher. I did that for two years, it was difficult”.
Despite the hardships encountered during his life, Khaby Lame is very successful and is proud of his career. And for the artist, the clicks and the number of views don’t seem to matter. “Frankly, I never pay attention to numbers. It does not interest me. I’m happy, but following the rankings doesn’t interest me. Being first, second, third, that does not interest me. I would make videos even if I was nobody. As I have always done on YouTube.” Today, he advises to “do not stop at the first obstacle”, and wishes “the best to everyone”.
