VIDEO. What the Uyghurs suffer in 5 points, by Raphaël Glucksmann

Mass sterilization of Uyghur women

This is what leads to the disappearance of a people. We are going to control births, limit them in such a way that the Uyghurs become ultra-minority on their own lands and finally are led to dilute themselves, to fade away within the great Chinese nation. And so, this systematic sterilization is the culmination of the Chinese government’s policy of forced assimilation and erasure of Uyghur identity.

The deportation of a people

Since 2016, there have been more than three million Uyghurs who have been deported and interned in concentration camps. In these camps, there is a ceremony that sums up the Chinese government’s entire policy of repression. Every morning, the deportees are rounded up and are forced to renounce their faith, their language, their identity and to swear loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party, its leader Xi Jinping and its ideology. Any recalcitrant will be de facto eliminated.

The cousins

The cousins are emissaries of the Chinese Communist Party who are sent to the homes of Uyghur families, and who often settle there for more than a week, sharing the daily life of the families to monitor them, control them and oblige them . And when the Uighur man is not there, because he is either in a camp, or because he is on a production unit, far from his region, well, the emissary of the Chinese Communist Party imposes himself in the woman’s own bed and in her house. We can note, in fact, all the perversity of the oppression of the Chinese government in this institution, since your executioner, the one who is at home to persecute you, harass you, rape you, even, you are obliged to call him “cousin “, as if it were a relative.

Enslavement

Hundreds of thousands of Uighur human beings are being enslaved right now. We find them, these slaves, on the production lines of the biggest brands, those that structure our daily lives, those that penetrate our cupboards or our garages. These forced laborers without any rights are compelled to thank you and allow companies close to the Chinese government to enrich themselves insanely. The search for the lowest production cost leads prestigious brands to benefit from the enslavement of a people and this is what we are fighting against, in particular by promoting the law on the duty of vigilance of companies at the European scale.

The QR code

You have QR codes, barcodes that are affixed to the houses. The police come by, scan them and can have access to all the daily gestures that structure the life of Uyghur families. It is all of the most modern surveillance techniques that are put to the service of the project of erasing and suppressing a people.
