VIDEO. “We can reverse aging, it’s proven”, says a pioneering biologist in cell reprogramming

Biologist Vittorio Sebastiano is one of the pioneers of cell reprogramming. Among dozens of start-ups in Silicon Valley, California, “Special Envoy” visited him at Turn Biologies, the company he launched four years ago. With his team, he is finalizing a treatment with a barely believable promise: it could rejuvenate our skin by twenty years.

By what miracle? By attacking the protein responsible for the inflammatory phenomenon associated with aging. Witnesses, these skin samples obtained after abdominal surgery operations. “We are showing that we can rejuvenate them”, explains the biologist. Thus, a 52-year-old could see his wrinkles disappear and his hair grow back… Would it be possible to reverse aging?

A study on real patients should be launched in 2024, and candidates are scrambling to test this new treatment which will undoubtedly be based on micro-injections into the skin. Unsurprisingly, the cosmetics industry is showing great interest. In a few years, could the creams or capsules sold in perfumery really provide youth… eternal?

Beyond the cosmetic applications of this discovery, reversing the aging process would make it possible to fight against all age-related pathologies, such as respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s… Will old age be cured one day? how do you treat a disease? “From a biological point of view, I don’t think immortality is impossible,” dare even Vittorio Sebastiano. But it’s not yet for today: “We still have a lot to discover…”
