As winter approaches, France is the leading European country in terms of gas storage. But will the reserves be sufficient to survive the winter?
Gas stocks have been filling up for several months in France. But will they still be enough? France has 16 gas storage sites. That of Yvelines is gigantic and contains the equivalent of 600,000 Olympic swimming pools. The gas continues to arrive in the tanks. France is one of the first European countries in terms of filling. The reserves should be full within the next two weeks.
However, it is not certain that the stocks will be sufficient to survive the winter. Our consumption is ensured by the reserves built up during the summer, by imports of liquid gas and by gas which arrives continuously via gas pipelines. However, without the new Russian arrivals, France will lose up to a quarter of its winter supplies. Everything will therefore depend a lot on the weather. Especially since the European states have assured that they would share their stocks in the event of a hard blow…
