Alex Dabagh is a leatherworker and designer. Passionate about creative revaluation, he tackles the problem of plastic in New York by recycling single-use bags into much more resistant objects.

“We mainly make leather bags, leather goods accessories, upholstery, components. We are above all craftsmen, designers, manufacturers of luxury items.”

These objects, Alex Dabagh lis made by harvesting single-use plastic that it transforms into a more resistant material. “We have bread bags, tortilla bags, bubble wrap, grocery bags, fruit bags. All these flexible plastics, we recover them and give them a second life.”

Since 2020, single-use plastic bags have been banned in New York State, where 23 million plastic bags were used each year.

“I went around the shops to collect the plastic at the source. We collected the bags from neighborhood stores, pharmacies, everywhere, saying, ‘What are you going to do with your plastic? I can get rid of it and upgrade it.'”
