In India, Anirban and Poulami Nandy, accompanied by their library installed in their car, go to villages to lend books to children. They also take the opportunity to give lessons. Brut met them.
“These are children who want to do a doctorate, who want to become nurses or doctors. We try to prepare them for it.“Anirban and Poulami Nandy are Indians, and they created their mobile library during their engineering studies. This couple regularly travels to isolated villages in India to provide 8,000 villagers with free books and textbooks. They also give children English and computer lessons. “At first they didn’t come at all. They were running away”, remember Anirban and Poulami. “We started with very few students, between 5 and 10. Seeing them, others came.”
However, the couple almost did not continue the adventure. “The research conducted in the United States and the United Kingdom was appreciated. We knew there were odd opportunitiesr,” they explain. Despite everything, they decided to continue teaching the Indians. “We have so many relationships, there are so many people involved. If we abandoned them, just to discover another country, we would blame ourselves. (…) We cannot leave them. They placed a lot of hope in us. By staying here, we can help them excel and improve.”
They even hope one day to take their students with them for their research abroad. “These opportunities in the United States, in the United Kingdom, why are we not seizing them? We will do it for them. (…) One day, we will go there, with them. If they go, we’ll be happy.”
