“They were cowardly abandoned in a box. We haven’t been able to find the “owners”, if you can call it that. We also think of the mother, the dog who was separated from her puppies at one week old, who must continue to have milk and not understand why her babies disappeared.” declares Marion Jauneau, co-manager of Le Repère, an animal sanctuary in Champéon, in Mayenne. The ones she’s talking about are nine puppies. If The Marker is not “not specialized in dogs and cats”, the co-manager specifies that she has “didn’t have the heart to refuse to take them”. Marion Jauneau recalls that “A pet is not an obligation to have. If we choose to have them, we must be responsible. You need to know the conditions of well-being that must be provided to them, the veterinary costs that this may incur. And above all, the main thing is to castrate them, sterilize them”. If your dog or cat is expecting a litter that you do not wish to keep, the co-manager indicates that it is important to contact “towards structures, or shelters, capable of welcoming puppies but we do not leave them to die of cold outside by leaving them abandoned to their fate”.
Food, veterinarian, vaccinations… “There is nothing cuter on earth than a little dog, than a little kitten. But it grows, it requires maintenance, knowledge, it requires time, it requires money”. Concerning the nine puppies found in a box, Marion Jauneau explains that they will be put up for adoption. But not right now : “For any adoption request, we will wait a little while to let them grow and make their own way. And indeed, of course, they will be up for adoption with adoption contracts… and that we place them in the best family possible, who will give them the most beautiful life possible. With their complicated little start, we owe them that!”
