From kindergarten to CM2, these students go several times a year to the Mognéville forest to take care of a plot that they manage themselves. Brut followed them on one of these outings.
The objective of these outings is to show children that the forest can provide several aspects. Several times a year, they learn how to take care of the trees and become aware of their protection. “I found it interesting to be able to link the practice with all that is pedagogical and that we must also work in our programs. Sustainable development, we talk about it in geography, in moral and civic education, in science”, explains Emilienne Briatte, teacher at the Pierre Robin elementary school in Robert-Spain.
“We can discover more things about nature”
Arnaud Apert, vice-president of the Association of Forest Municipalities of the Meuse, supervises this project in particular, by accompanying the teacher and her class on this plot, thus instilling in the pupils a great deal of knowledge about the forest and the biodiversity that she accomodates. “This is the plot that was proposed as part of the project “the forest makes school”, therefore which is coordinated by the Federation of forest municipalities. It is a plot for which we want the children to appropriate it”, confirms Arnaud Apert.
Noah, 10, was looking forward to this outing. Just like his classmates, he takes care of the forest and appreciates it at its fair value. “We’re going to put this little ribbon around a very small tree to prevent those who work at the NFB from cutting them down and trying not to run over them with the tractors. And later, in a few years, we will come back to see the evolution of our trees. I’ve been waiting for this release for over a week. I said to myself that it was nice to do that for a school in a small village like that and I was very happy because I love the forest.”, justifies Noah.
