There would be more than 100 000 water reservoirs in France, which are today the subject of a tense face-to-face : on the one hand, farmers who consider these reserves essential ; on the other, defenders of the environment for whom it is urgent to preserve and share this vital resource. A “Special Envoy” investigation.
After the rallies and overflows of the last weekend of October in Sainte-Soline, “Special Envoy” returns to the water war and the controversial projects of agricultural basins in Deux-Sèvres.
It is a battle that has been tearing our countryside apart and transforming our landscapes for years, that of water reservoirs. There would be more than 100,000 in France, of all sizes. These giant reserves are built by farmers to store water and irrigate fields in the summer.
How to find common ground?
But today, they are the subject of a tense face to face. On the one hand, farmers who consider these reserves essential to the survival of their farms. Facing them, the defenders of the environment for whom it is urgent to preserve and share this vital resource.
An investigation by Alice Gauvin, Eric Maizy and Marielle Krouk rebroadcast in “Special Envoy” on November 3, 2022.
