Michel Barnier spoke on Saturday after his first visit to Necker Hospital in Paris.

“I am under the surveillance of all French people. The government is under the democratic surveillance of all French people and all political groups.”said Michel Barnier, on the sidelines of his first trip as head of government, to the Necker hospital in Paris. Earlier in the day, the leader of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella; had affirmed that Michel Barnier was “under surveillance” of the far-right party.

“I am not here to make announcements or to make a fuss. I will not do so throughout my term as Prime Minister, that is not my temperament.”Michel Barnier also declared. The new Prime Minister also promised that “Public health will be a priority in the countryside and in the cities”. He wishes for “rapid progress” And “visible in the countryside, in the provision of care, in health centres and medical services”. In parallel with this, he wishes to continue “to take care of making the hospital work better with the staff”.

Although he did not give details on how this was achieved, Michel Barnier assures that he does not want to “increase the financial debt on [les] future generations, nor the ecological debt”. “I think that by managing public money better, we can make progress in the efficiency of public spending. Give me a few weeks, don’t be too impatient.”he added.
