The three members of the group Green Day are back with a new album Saviors. Twenty years after American Idiot, they once again dismantle the American Dream. Brut met them.

The title “The American Dream is Killing Me” talks about the weariness and anxiety that we experience when we are American and we live in division. We live in California, we see all these homeless people.. This chaos we are going through, we all have to face it, but at the same time, we are all very divided” explains Billie Joe Armstrong, the singer and guitarist of Green Day. The group has just released its fourteenth album: Saviors. “The American Dream is an idea that is outdated for many people. For many, it doesn’t work” adds Mike Dirnt, bassist.

“The world is really crazy right now and that’s what Saviors is about”

In its texts, the group also deals with other excesses of our time, notably the omnipresent social networks in society. “Now, with these rectangles that we have in our pockets, there is an illusion of celebrity and people think they are famous on the Internet. But being famous on the Internet is like being rich at Monopoly.” comments Tré Cool, drummer. “We are a bit like the generation that fell by the wayside. I think we, Generation X, are just here to observe and tell. That’s all we’ve managed to do so far! The world is really crazy right now and that’s what Saviors is all about” concludes the singer of the group.
