Not even 24 hours after the announcement of his hiring by the New York IslandersPatrick Roy jumped on the ice with his new players on Sunday morning to lead a first training session under his new colors.
No choice: Roy will be back behind the bench of an NHL team for the first time in seven years, since his resounding departure from Colorado, starting Sunday evening, when the Islanders will receive a visit from the Dallas Stars in 7:30 p.m.
Roy was already very “vocal” on the ice in training, true to his reputation. In fact, he seems to have put on quite a show, as can be seen above.
With no time to waste, Roy was very lively with his new players, ensuring that the drills were done with attention to detail.
Already a challenge
The challenge will already be important on Sunday for Roy, who did not have time to change the system in his own way.
The Stars, ranked third in the Central section in the West, represent a tough team.
The Islanders, for their part, are going through a four-game losing streak and are trying as best they can to hang on in the playoff race.
The carrots are far from cooked, since only two points separate them from the Detroit Red Wings, who hold the last position giving access to the spring tournament in the East.
