The Outreau affair, the Cahuzac offshore accounts, the Balkany tax fraud, the Merah trial… Eric Dupond-Moretti has pleaded the most emblematic cases of the past twenty years. The one nicknamed “Acquitator”, the tenor of the bar capable of overturning a trial, will also have dabbled in the boards, in a one-man show at the Madeleine theater, and (almost) on the radio. Charles Villeneuve, a pillar of Europe 1, had convinced him to provide a daily column from September 2020. But at the same time, a major competitor blew him his future star columnist: the President of the Republic.

Even more than a media stunt, the Dupond-Moretti choice for Place Vendôme looks like a political gamble, according to journalist Laurent Valdiguié. “Beyond the Ministry of Justice alone, Macron may think that bringing Eric Dupond-Moretti back into his political cast is a very good medium-term and long-term operation. Why ? Because he knows how to talk to people, Dupond. It renews the genre a bit. As part of a presidential campaign, Dupond in a meeting, it can be a show, something effective. And very effective on the electorate of Marine Le Pen. It’s a nice operation. It’s a nice catch. That’s what Macron thinks.”
