The French 3×3 basketball team recorded its first victory in an Olympic tournament, while the women’s team lost to China.
A first for men’s 3×3 basketball. Facing Poland in the opening match of the Olympic tournament, the French won 21-19 on Tuesday, July 30 at the Concorde. A special victory for the quartet, since this is their first at the Games, in a discipline that has been on the Olympic program since 2021.
Surprised by the physical commitment of the Poles, the Blues were quickly led 9-3. Pushed by an exalted public, the Tricolores first came back to level, before imposing themselves on a final basket of Lucas Dussoulier, making the score 21-19.
Earlier in the day, the French women lost 21-19 to China in their first match. Pushed around by the team that had deprived them of bronze in Tokyo, the Blues quickly fell behind 8-1, before coming back into the game and going into overtime. Beaten on a last-gasp shot by Lili Wang, the French women will have to make up for it against Spain on Wednesday at 9 p.m.
