Marc Tanguay generously offered a sweatshirt bearing the image of former MP Catherine Dorion to Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois on Friday at the Salon bleu.

The interim leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec made this brilliant move during the traditional holiday greeting speeches, which are an opportunity for party leaders to make a few jokes at the expense of their counterparts, at the last day of the parliamentary session in December.

After offering a book autographed by Jean Charest to Prime Minister François Legault, who laughed heartily, Mr. Tanguay took out an orange sweatshirt from his bag to offer it to Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

“During the holidays, it’s always fun to be able to be at home and then get dressed up,” he said, unfolding the garment to reveal the face of the former MP Catherine Dorion, known for her sartorial escapades while she was elected.

The gesture caused general hilarity. “It will keep him warm,” added Marc Tanguay. Several elected officials slapped their thighs.

Moreover, when beginning his speech, PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon could not help but salute the humorous performance of his liberal counterpart. “I have rarely laughed so much!” he said.

In his speech, Prime Minister Legault showed self-deprecation by looking back on his difficult year. “I started the year being for the third link, around April I became against the third link and, in October, I became for the third link again. There, I am planning my year 2024 and, to tell you the truth, I asked Santa Claus for a compass for Christmas,” he said, with a smile on his lips.

For his part, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois wished François Legault to take time during the holiday holidays to “think about what really matters: the return of the Quebec Nordiques”.
