Too white beaches in Juan-les-Pins? The association SOS Racisme filed a complaint, Friday, September 16, in Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes), against two beach establishments in Antibes which it accuses of racial discrimination.

In a test operation conducted on July 30, “unfortunately we have noticed that some beaches do not respond the same depending on the origin of the couples who come to the entrance”according to the president of SOS Racisme, Dominique Sopo. “We obviously concluded that there was discrimination based on people’s real or perceived origin.”

Ten beaches in Juan-les-Pins were tested during this operation, including six that were not complete. “On of them of them, people of North African origin or people of sub-Saharan origin were refused while white people, so to speak, were able to return”says Dominique Sopo.

At the time, the online media Loopsider filmed the test with a hidden camera. The video, which today totals millions of views, had aroused, when it was broadcast in August, many reactions from left-wing elected officials rebelling against “structural racism” Of our society. The charges are liable to penalties of up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.

During this operation, other establishments were tested in the south of France. A private beach and a bar in Marseille, as well as a nightclub in Aix-en-Provence, have been pinned down by SOS Racisme, which is preparing a complaint against them.
