Three years after a first test carried out in several real estate agencies, SOS Racisme repeated its investigation. Of 136 agencies tested, 49% agreed to practice discriminatory selection. Brut had access to the recording of these calls.

Between the cuisine which is different, between the religions which are not the same, indeed, it can quickly become a mess, yeah, I agree with you“This is one of the many sounds recorded by SOS Racisme, which has just carried out a new real estate testing campaign.”So, it was important for us to redo this testing three years after this first survey of 2019, to find out whether there had been an evolution in this period or not, and the proof is that the figures have not changed so much moved“, deplores Gregory member of SOS Racisme.

According to SOS Racisme, 48% of the real estate agencies tested accept the discriminatory demands of landlords, compared to 51% in 2019. “We don’t know the people, but because they have certain characteristics, because they have a skin color that suggests they are of foreign origin, well, we are going to associate them with characteristics that make these people too noisy, would not be enough in hygiene, will dirty, etc..”, develops Gregory. One in four agencies agrees to screen potential tenants on the basis of a racially discriminatory criterion, i.e. 34 out of 136 agencies.

Today, the author of discrimination, owner or real estate agent, risks up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros. SOS Racisme should be received at the end of the week by Emmanuelle Wargon, Minister in charge of Housing.
