For more than 25 years, his country has been the site of war crimes. Like thousands of women, she was the victim of rape. Today, Tatiana Mukanire campaigns for raped women in the DRC, and against the stigmatization of children resulting from these rapes. She tells.

Tatiana Mukanire is a Congolese activist against sexual violence. This fight, she has been leading since she herself was raped. It was in 2004, when the city of Bukavu was in the midst of an uprising, the young woman sought to hide to avoid the bullets. “Unfortunately, I ran into these men who raped me and took everything I held dear“, she says.

Then begins a waking nightmare for Tatiana. She repeats the scene over and over and is no longer alive. “We’re gonna burst into tears, we’re gonna cry, we’re gonna get into alcohol, drugs, but nothing’s gonna change“, she breathes.”Everything got complicated in my body. Physically, I was starting to be destroyed, because psychologically, it was no longer okay“, adds Tatiana.

Victim of pain and bleeding, Tatiana went to see Dr Mukwege at her hospital. “He treated me, he helped me see a psychologist so that I could accept what had happened to me“, she says. For more than 25 years, the Democratic Republic of Congo is the ground of war crimes. Tatiana in then made his fight.
