Thursday, November 4, 2021 is a big day for fans of Riad Sattouf. And also for those of Vincent Lacoste. It marks the release of the new opus from the author of The Arab of the future, which is once again about youth, but this time it is not his. The Young Actor (published by Les livres du futur, founded by the comic book author) tells the story of an inexperienced 14-year-old teenager’s first steps into the world of cinema. Riad Sattouf met him in 2008 on the casting of Beautiful Kids, his first movie.
And it all starts with a misunderstanding … “I hadn’t understood at all that I was going to be extremely ugly, I thought I was going to be slightly improved and that these were the stories of a young attractive college student, who goes from romance to romance“, jokes Vincent Lacoste. It’s true that with his”dung-spotted sweater” and his “mid-length Coluche hairstyle“, the spotty teenager of Beautiful Kids is not spoiled. “But it’s a fiasco, this person is going to ruin my life!“then frightens the young actor.
In fact of fiasco, the film is rewarded with the Césars. Instead of ruining his life, he launched his career, and today Vincent Lacoste is one of the most requested young French actors.
“A huge uncle”
In this new comic, in hollow, Riad Sattouf also opens up a little. Over time, he took Vincent Lacoste under his wing, becoming “a huge uncle” or one “suck daddy” who is worried about his protege. “I had an anxiety that would wake me up at night sometimes, so I was always pumping his air: ‘So, how much did you have in general this term?‘”he laughs.
Today, the two never leave each other, and maintain a friendship tinged with a “fairly family relationship“. As if unconsciously, Riad Sattouf had played the role of the protective father that he himself would have liked to have. But he will perhaps tell it in a future comic …
