“Special Envoy” went to the border between Poland and Belarus, in an icy forest where, for two months, thousands of migrants have been massing, in the hope of entering Europe. Men, women and children who fled Syria or Kurdistan and find themselves trapped, turned back on both sides of the border, starving and at the end of their rope.
A “hybrid war” which claims real victims
They are the victims of a cynical standoff between the Belarusian autocrat Alexander Lukashenko, who allowed them to get here, and his Polish counterpart, who intends to block their path. A “hybrid war” which has real victims: more than a dozen bodies have already been found despite the efforts of Polish villagers who live in this “forbidden zone” and try to rescue them.
