Video over-tagging arrives in Sens in 2022

To fight against annoying parking lots in Sens in the Yonne, the municipality has just released a new weapon: video overbearing. The principle is very simple, if a municipal policeman, behind the cameras, notes that a motorist obstructs the movement of other vehicles or pedestrians, he will be entitled to issue a fine.

In the viewfinder: annoying parking lots

Currently five municipal police officers from Sens take turns in front of the screens of the urban supervision center. And they observe every day many offenses, details the deputy mayor of Sens in charge of security, Jean-Pierre Crost: “it’s cars that stop to get two notes from the bank, it’s people who will drop off a package, who go to get bread, stop in front of the post office and don’t bother to know what ‘there are people behind or not. “

Nine streets involved

The city of Sens (about 25,000 inhabitants) is very well equipped in terms of video surveillance since it has 110 cameras and an urban supervision center. Video over-marking will not apply to the entire city, but to nine streets, chosen specifically for the road behavior observed there. “The emblematic crossroads in this area is the intersection of the rue de la République and the main street”, adds Jean-Pierre Crost. As soon as it is put in place, video over-tagging should apply from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on several axes: rue de la République, rue du Général-de-Gaulle, boulevard du Mail, avenue de la Gare, Grande-Rue, avenue Vauban, rue de l ‘ Europe, Colette (in front of the college), André-Gateau and avenue Lucien-Cornet.

Authorizations to be obtained before implementation

Video over-tagging in Sens will not be not effective before spring next because the city is still awaiting the authorization of various authorities, the Prefecture of Yonne, the public prosecutor of Sens and the CNIL (Commission Nationale Informatique et Liberté). If the city of Sens wishes to extend its perimeter of videotape, for each new street concerned, it will have to obtain the approval of the authorities.
