Placed at the age of 3, Jonathan went through the homes and foster families. When he was 21 years old and with the cessation of support from Child Welfare, he found himself on the street. For the past few months, he has been living in a tent in Nantes, helped by the Repairs 44 – Adepape de Loire-Atlantique association. He tells.
“My father was on the street and suddenly he also had a mattress in his tent, and as now, he’s staying with colleagues of his own, he left me his mattress. I also have a duvet, an extra little duvet and a pillow over there. And then the rest is rubbish. “Jonathan is 21 years old. He is homeless. For several months, he has been living in a tent in Nantes.”I don’t wash myself every day. Most of the time I wash 2, 3 times a week, and again“, he confides.
At the age of 3, he was placed with his sister in the Aide Sociale à l’Enfance, a state service that helps poor families. His mother then does not have the means to take care of them. Since then, he has chained the homes and foster families. “Every 3 years, almost every time, it was cut off. And basically, we called it the rupture syndrome. It’s the fact of not having a stable thing“, explains Jonathan.
Social Assistance for Children stops supporting the young people for whom it is responsible when they reach the age of 21, it is the law. Some of them, like Jonathan, find themselves left to fend for themselves. In France, 40% of homeless people under the age of 25 are formerly from Social Assistance to Children. “I don’t necessarily have a dream but just to have a more stable situation than this one. Having an apartment, a stable job. Here, why not already. It’s a good start I think“, he breathes.
