A demonstration to call for the safeguard of the maternity of Sedan (Ardennes), threatened with closure, took place this Saturday, February 4. One of the participants, the deputy (UDI) Jean-Luc Warsmann, was floured by an individual accusing him of being responsible for the situation.
The demonstration on Saturday February 4, 2023 was to draw attention to the future of the maternity hospital in Sedan (Ardennes). There is indeed a risk of talking about it a lot, but not necessarily for the right reasons.
There were many elected officials who wanted to participate in this mobilization, including the deputy (UDI) of the Ardennes, Jean-Luc Warsmann. Particularly well established, he began his seventh term in the National Assembly in June 2022, sitting since 1995 (it’s been 27 years).
It was around 11 a.m. when Thomas Chammah and Ophélie Perroux, journalists from France 3 Champagne-Ardenne, witnessed a sudden and unexpected scene. An individual wearing a hat approached the deputy and suddenly sprinkled him with flour. “He deserves… He deserves. For 40 years he’s been an impostor. He deserves. […] Impostor…” (see video below)

“It is shameful”, retorted one of the participants in the march. As he was being handcuffed by a policeman, he again complained, raising his arm towards the chosen one. “The death of public services is him… He deceives the people.”
Several other people were showered with flour during the process. The man was picked up by the police. The deputy moved away to wash his face, before returning to the procession shortly before the end of the event.
The movement began at 10 a.m. The people participating, several hundred according to the count made by France 3 Champagne-Ardenne, had armed themselves with empty strollers to simulate the impact that the closure would have on families in the area. It would be “a drama”testifies a demonstrator, who points out that it is difficult to attract new and young populations to a territory devoid of such a structure.
Moms (or future moms) were present in number, but not only. A group of retired people also wanted to show their solidarity, while the maternity hospital risks closing in March following the retirement of two anesthesiologists.
Nearly 600 births take place there every year. Otherwise, you have to drive 45 minutes and go to Charleville to give birth (see the location of the Sedan maternity hospital on the map below).
Jean-Luc Warsmann has not yet spoken after what he suffered. The mayor (PS) of Sedan, Didier Herbillon, To “strongly condemned this inadmissible aggression” and support the MP. “It’s not the best way” to express a claim, learnedly pointed out a lady present in the procession.
Just before the New Year, the deputy (LR) Valérie Bazin-Malgras had meanwhile been threatened with a firearm near Troyes (Aube).
