Every day, Karima takes care of her two twins, suffering from a degenerative and incurable disease which limits their movements. A complicated and trying task that she carries out in accommodation that is unsuitable for the disability of her children.

“I’ve been doing the same things for seven years now”. Every day, Karima takes care of her children, Younes and Rayane, both of whom have disabilities that greatly prevent them from moving around. She hopes one day to be able to obtain an apartment adapted to the handicap of her seven-year-old sons in Massy, where she currently lives.

“These are twins who have spinal muscular atrophy type 3, very worsening in the long term. It paralyzes all the muscles of the body”, explains the mother of the twins. On a daily basis, she uses her physical strength to carry and move her children in her home, despite the stairs and obstacles that complicate the task.

“Rayane cannot crawl. I have to take him and put him where he wants to go. There, for example, he cannot get up, it is very difficult for him.”

“She fell several times. Once she twisted her ankle. Next year, she won’t be able to carry me,” testifies Rayane, one of the twins.

“I would like to manage on my own”, he continues. Karima would like to be able to change apartments to take better care of her sons and make everyday life easier for the family. But this request is difficult.

“I’ve been making requests for years, people, they ask the question, ‘How come you don’t have an apartment?’”.

“On Massy, where I am, I am told that there is no apartment for me. I worked before and I stopped for my children. I am like a robot, more than a robot”.
