Images of a police intervention in the metro in Laval sparked many reactions on social networks on Thursday.
In the video first posted on TikTok, two police officers are seen attempting to immobilize an already immobile person with tasers.
“The ‘taser’ doesn’t work, it seems,” a witness can be heard saying before a third policeman arrives.
Many Internet users reacted to the video, which was then shared on Instagram. The reaction of the police and the pulse gun which does not seem to work has certainly made people talk, but many are wondering what led to this intervention.
What really happened?
The event occurred Wednesday afternoon between Henri-Bourassa station and Cartier.
“The necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of passengers and police officers from the Laval police department (SPL) have been called to intervene,” said the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).
According to Jean-Pierre Gingras, who was present at the event, the individual was agitated when he pulled out a knife and threatened the other passengers.
It was at this moment that a burly man intervened and tried to immobilize him. During this altercation, the man was injured in the face by the individual, visibly in crisis.
Once the train arrived at the Cartier station, the police intervened. Having something on him that prevented the “taser” from working, the police had to use the shield to intercept the man who refused to cooperate, said Stephanie Beshara, spokeswoman for the SPL.
“The individual was transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation,” she said.
Fortunately, the man who intervened in the car suffered only minor injuries.
“He’s a hero. He risked his life to save everyone,” said Mr. Gingras, still shaken by the scene he witnessed.
