At the Clermont-Ferrand court, a specialized center made up of volunteer magistrates has been set up to chair hearings dedicated to domestic violence. “Special Envoy” obtained exceptional authorization to film these hearings.
How can we better judge domestic violence? At the Clermont-Ferrand court, a specialized center was set up four years ago, made up of volunteer magistrates, specifically trained. It is dedicated to not only domestic violence but, more broadly, intra-family violence.
For a faster criminal response, this specialized chamber aims to judge these cases within six months, on average, after the facts. But this requirement does not prevent an in-depth examination of the files: the number of those presented is reduced compared to a traditional correctional hearing, in order to be able to devote more time to each case.
Adapt sentences, prevent recidivism
This court, unlike any other, works with a victims’ assistance association, POUR 63 (Victims Association, Listening, Advice) and the hearings are prepared several weeks in advance, by a lawyer specializing in domestic violence.
The objective: to allow victims to feel more confident, and to make the perpetrators, judged one after the other for similar acts, understand the seriousness of their actions. Adapt sentences as best as possible to prevent recidivism. “Special Envoy” obtained exceptional authorization to film these hearings.
