It is a barely believable story that took place in Paris on March 22: an attempted forced return of a Chinese dissident organized by the Chinese authorities, completely illegally. An operation which above all reveals the existence of clandestine Chinese police stations on French territory.

Alerted in advance, a “Special Envoy” team was able to follow and film this operation involving members of a Franco-Chinese association, employees of the Chinese embassy in France, in direct contact with a police office in China.

Chinese clandestine police officers around the world

The action begins in Aubervilliers, in a building whose address is known to French intelligence services as having housed a clandestine Chinese police station. It ends at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, where the dissident ends up escaping his guards a few minutes before boarding the plane. In the days following the failure of this forced return, “Special Envoy” investigated the threats suffered by this young dissident and his family remaining in China.

The story of this dissident pursued in France illustrates, for the very first time, a reality now well known to Western intelligence services: the capacity of the Chinese state to arrest anyone, anywhere on the planet. , thanks to the action of a very well-established network of clandestine police stations, with complete impunity.

A report by Thomas Lafarge, Antoine Izambard, Jérôme Prouvost, Pablo Rey / Kraken Films, in partnership with the magazine “Challenges” broadcast in “Special Envoy” on May 2, 2024.
