In Texas, the last clinic in the Rio Grande valley practicing abortions is located close to an anti-abortion center. In this region, 13 pro-abortion clinics have already closed.

“Often the way the mainstream media portrays this decision boils down to the idea of killing a baby. But for many people, there may be health reasons, economic reasons”explains Maya Cueva, co-founder of ‘On The Divide’.

For many women, the Whole Woman’s Health Clinic remains the last way to seek an abortion in the region.

Only a few meters away, the McAllen Pregnancy Center targets women likely to have an abortion in an attempt to prevent them from doing so.

In this region, there are many Latin women or women from Mexico who are undocumented. Some have decided to cross the border because abortion is not available in their countries.

“In all of Texas, there are only 8 abortion centers left like the Whole Woman’s Health Clinic. It is not only the right to abortion that is withdrawn. These are rights related to reproduction in general”says Maya Cueva.
