Correspondent. I married the war

Correspondent. I married the war – (SPECIAL SENDING / FRANCE 2)

In Ukraine, more and more women find themselves alone to bear and raise their children. “Special Envoy” followed some of these wives whose husbands are mobilized, and who are living the war from behind, between anguish and resourcefulness.

In Ukraine, Svitlana is 8 months pregnant. She will give birth in a few days but her husband may not be allowed to leave the front line to attend the birth. Like her, more and more women find themselves alone to bear and raise their children. Many married just before their partner’s mobilization, or during leave from the soldier they loved. Svitlana devotes her free time to collecting donations to finance the purchase of drones or vehicles to help her husband’s battalion.

Traumatized children

For two years, Olena’s life has also been punctuated by her husband’s calls, between two fights. How to answer the questions of children traumatized by the departure of their father, between two missile alerts? “Special Envoy” focuses on these wives who live the war from behind, between anguish and resourcefulness and try to organize themselves to work for the victory that would bring their men home.

A report by Lila Bellili, Raynald Lellouche, Anna Poupin and Iaroslav Oliinnyk broadcast in “Special Envoy” on February 15, 2024.
