They are rich, very rich, and they ask… to pay more taxes! In the United States, the Patriotic Millionaires club has around 200 members, who are indignant about paying proportionately less taxes than the middle classes.

They are heirs, business creators or have made their fortune in finance and they want… to pay more taxes! They nicknamed themselves the Patriotic Millionaires and there are around 200 of them in the United States.

These Americans are privileged, of course, but something bothers them from enjoying their fortune: while salaries are taxed at a maximum of 37% in their country, income from financial investments is only taxed at 21%, a system tax which they find unfair and unsustainable in the long term.

A global wealth tax?

While inequalities in the United States, as in most developed countries, continue to grow, they are indignant about paying proportionally less taxes than the middle classes. And campaign for a global wealth tax.

Like Abigail Disney, great-niece of Walt Disney, who joined the Patriotic Millionaires club in 2011. She accepts it, the guilt (of being rich) is “its fuel“and she would be”happy to pay 50% tax” on her income. She found a new means of action by devoting a large part of her money to the production of committed documentaries.

A report by Olivier Sibille, Valérie Lucas, Arnaud Pacary and Harold Horoks broadcast in “Special Envoy” on January 18, 2024.
