In schools, middle and high schools, Yannick organizes workshops to raise students’ awareness of empathy. The final objective is to contribute to the fight against school bullying. Brut followed him during a workshop with middle school students.
Facilitator of the Génération digital association, Yannick launches a game to the class. It’s called The Three Musketeers. Three volunteers join him in front of the board. The first will have to carry a stack of books placed on his outstretched arms, the second will have to remain in an uncomfortable chair position and the last is allowed to do whatever he wants. Yannick pretends to have “forget” the other college students, observing the scene, thus giving them no instructions. Will some of the students come to the aid of those who are in difficulty?
This is what the facilitator will test. And to his dismay, no student stood up to help them. Yannick, the host, calls for empathy from everyone. “Just saying ‘ma’am, this is happening’ is reacting,” he specifies. He reminds us that it is essential to know how to detect when one of your comrades seems to be feeling unwell. And that it is crucial to speak up, report it and inform the staff of the establishment. Developing empathy from an early age helps break the vicious circle that can lead to bullying.
