This Marseille speaker decided to go to the COP26 in Glasgow by bike. The English Channel, he crossed it with an old sailboat. Zero waste, zero new equipment, zero carbon footprint, it’s possible, and Benjamin wanted to prove it with his Expedition Zero.
He is Benjamin de Molliens, a committed adventurer. He launched an unusual challenge and agreed to share it with us: join the COP26 in Glasgow … by bike. He therefore put himself “in” 3-0 “mode: zero waste, zero new equipment and zero carbon footprint, with a sailboat and by bicycle. “Climate change is the challenge of the century“, he smiles. From Lille, he reached Boulogne-sur-Mer by bike. For this part of the trip, the Marseille speaker was accompanied by two friends, Nathan and Hugo. To respect as much as possible his goal of” zero equipment new, “the bike was loaned to him and the saddlebags were made from used materials.”The front-to-back saddlebag is a climbing crash pad, this is kayak canvas, this is a life jacket belt and this is an old bicycle tire“, shows Benjamin.
It was then alone that Benjamin continued his adventure. He therefore crossed the Channel by sailboat before taking his bike back to London. “I do not push people to, all, take their bikes and travel 1000 km but I try to make people, as many people as possible, aware of our ecological footprint, our carbon footprint and starting with me rather than pointing out finger the others“, confides the young adventurer. Even for his food shopping, Benjamin found a zero waste store before finishing his long journey.
