Video Games: The Wonderful World of Unicorns

Legendary creatures, unicorns “exist” since ancient Greece since we find mentions of them in works of natural history. Today, we know that unicorns are imaginary, even if they live, in the form of pixels, in many games.

In order not to frighten the youngest, let’s start our trip to enchanted land with “The Unicorn Princess”. Gendered game par excellence with its touches of pink and its female heroine, the title dating from 2019 proposes to tame Unica the unicorn in the world of Dreams while it is necessary to take care of horses in the real world. In total, players can choose six different horses in order to complete the 15 missions and navigate this open world.

Very cute

Still created for those under 18, “Animal Crossing” features a unicorn. Not as a main character who is human, but as a neighbor. Julian the unicorn may seem a bit cold at first, but he turns out to be adorable. And, when you enter his home, you’ll find Greek artwork, a historic nod to a time when unicorns were considered real animals.

Obviously, the Pokémons have also thought of integrating several unicorns (or monsters strongly inspired by these fabulous animals). We thus find creatures like Ponyta or Rapidash – with its mane and tail on fire – as well as Keldeo, an equally impressive monster in each of these two incarnations.

Very colorful, the title “Peggle” is the very example of the game of relaxation and skill since you have to pass levels by sending balls into small pawns. And, for each painting, characters come to the aid of the players by granting them, in particular, special powers. The unicorn in “Peggle” is called Bjorn and his animations are really adorable.

A little more… “adult”

Obviously, it was to be expected that unicorns would quickly become, in video games, animals with which “gamers” can interact. And in some cases, it’s good fun or downright very “gore”.

Let’s start with the most normal, that is to say a unicorn that fans of “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” can ride like a horse. The fabulous animal is located in the Harcane Grove area and is guarded by three Minotaurs. Yes, it is possible to go for a ride on his back. But you can also decide to kill her if you feel the courage.

“Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare” offers players to train a unicorn (you will still have to grind four zombie horses to dust first). And just to capitalize on the image of the unicorn, know that when it is stationary, butterflies surround it and a rainbow follows it when it moves. Yes, it is “cute”.

In the first-person shooter “Borderlands”, there is a unicorn named Butt Stallion (I let you appreciate the saucy innuendo for yourself). Owned by a certain Handsome Jack, Butt Stallion has hints of “My Little Pony” and is equipped with… two horns.

The unicorn from “Red Faction: Armageddon” is of more dubious taste. The third-person shooter has a plethora of weapons all more effective than each other, including one that responds to the sweet name of Mr. Toots. His particuliarity? You guessed it, it’s a unicorn… that shoots rainbow-shaped lasers from its behind. Enemies hit then turn into butterflies and rainbows; enough to enchant the most hardened hearts.

And finally, under the sweet name of “Robot Unicorn Attack” hides a sympathetically violent game as soon as your unicorn – which must jump over dolphins – hits an obstacle. Because the flying animal then turns into bloody pieces.
