The former Montpellier player became a volunteer firefighter after the end of his sports career.
After hanging up his crampons, Frédéric Mendy, a former Montpellier player, wanted to fulfill another dream: to become a volunteer firefighter. “My childhood dream is to be a firefighter”says the one who was also coach of the women’s section of Montpellier. “I will go back to football, but I will not let go of this conversion.”
For four years, Frédéric Mendy has provided more than 100 days of guard duty per year in the Paillade barracks. Over the course of a day, he goes out in intervention a dozen times, always with the same motivation. Its commander Olivier Hayez describes a firefighter “copy”, always ready to help. “It’s important to support people […] a thank you, it’s worth as much as a goal, maybe even more”believes the former professional (1992-2007).
