From French Guiana to Senegal, we follow the members of an association who install “miraculous fountains” that make so-called “surface” water drinkable, i.e. that of lakes, rivers, wells or springs. where they are installed. A unique invention in the world that we owe to the French engineer Jean-Paul Augereau and which can change the lives of the inhabitants. It is a pump that operates manually, without electricity, and includes five stages of filtration to eliminate bacteria and particles contained in the water.
Jean-Paul Augereau is a globe-trotting entrepreneur who one day saw his destiny change after a serious sepsis contracted in Egypt by drinking unsafe water. It was a click and since then he has devoted his life to bringing drinking water to the four corners of the world.
Unclean water, a major public health problem
In a hamlet in French Guyana, in the heart of the Amazon, “Special Envoy” followed the installation of a fountain brought thanks to an association from Nantes. It supplies free drinking water to the entire hamlet and neighboring villages, ie 800 to 1,000 people per day. A way to avoid diseases caused by unclean water, a major public health problem.
There are now nearly 300 fountains like this, financed by various sponsors and installed in some twenty countries, which provide access to drinking water for around 250,000 people. As in Senegal, in Dakar, where “Special Envoy” also went.
A report by Hakim Abdelkhalek / Caravelle Productions broadcast in “Special Envoy” on November 10, 2022.
